As President and Founder of TCB Development, Mr. Vandenberg is responsible for TCB's growth and strategic direction. His acute ability to identify new real estate opportunities, his drive to act quickly with a passion to "get the deal done" and his focus on building a solid organizational infrastructure are the keys to the company's past and future success. His attentiveness to market needs and partnership with the brokerage community has allowed him to tailor the TCB Companies' offerings to the dynamic demands of the marketplace.
A lifelong entrepreneur, Mr. Vandenberg had successfully grown a privately held service company prior to entering the real estate development business. He was able to bring his strategic approach from that business and translate it into enviable success in Chicago area real estate. Combining his past successes and adding strategic alliances with institutional capital partners, Mr. Vandenberg and the TCB Companies are poised for the exciting new opportunities ahead.
Through personal and corporate involvement, Mr. Vandenberg has positioned TCB prominently as an active supporter of and participant in the Association of Industrial Real Estate Brokers (AIRE); the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP); the Chicago Chapter of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR); and as a trusted partner of many economic development organizations.
Mr. Atkenson is the Chief Financial Officer for TCB, responsible for financial and feasibility analyses, banking relationships, contract and lease negotiations, and financial reporting for TCB Development and TCB Design-Build. In addition, Mr. Atkenson oversees the property management and marketing functions. Since joining the company in 2003, Mr. Atkenson has overseen TCBs venture relationships with institutional partners, which have been significant to the TCB Companies growth. Mr. Atkenson brings over 20 years experience in the real estate industry to the management team. Prior to TCB, Mr. Atkenson was the Controller and Director of Internal Audits for Pasquinelli, a prominent privately held national home builder and developer. In addition, Mr. Atkenson has extensive banking experience including nine years at Cole Taylor Bank as a Senior Vice President in its Real Estate Banking Group. Professional affiliations include National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, the National Association of Home Builders, Self Storage Association and University of Illinois Real Estate Alumni Forum.
Mr. Atkenson earned a bachelors degree in finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign with High Honors and MBA in Finance from DePaul University in Chicago.
Mr. Freehauf is President of TCB Design Build. After joining TCB Design Build in 2003 as Senior Vice President, he was promoted in 2006. Since that time, he has led the firm's construction operations, sales and marketing. Mr. Freehauf leads the team through budget estimating and value engineering throughout the preconstruction phase.
Mr. Freehauf previously was partner and held an executive-level position at IHC Construction Companies, where he founded and led the growth of that firms design-build division between 1993 and 2003. Mr. Freehauf has executed design-build projects in a wide range of product types, including office, industrial, retail, warehousing, food processing and manufacturing. He earned his bachelor of science in civil engineering from Valparaiso University, and has worked in the construction and development industries for more than 25 years.
J. Randall Randy Tieman joined TCB Development as Executive Vice President in 2005 and brought with him more than 20 years experience in the commercial real estate industry and strong relationships in the commercial real estate brokerage community. Prior to joining TCB, Mr. Tieman was Senior Vice President at Opus, where he was responsible for land acquisition, speculative developments and build-to-suit transactions in the Chicago metropolitan area. Prior to joining Opus, Mr. Tieman held the position of Vice President of Development and Leasing at then-Walsh, Higgins & Company.
